As a writer, I value the reference books and style guides that help me with improving my work. So, I thought I’d share those reference books and style guides that I believe are most valuable to any of you who might be a writer or aspiring writer (or, if you are an editor or aspiring editor, these books are useful as well).
Most critical to have, to read, to know:
- Strunk and White’s Elements of Style
- Rudolf Flesch’s The Art of Readable Writing
Any or all of the following style manuals:
- The Associated Press Manual of Style
- The University of Chicago Manual of Style
- CBE (Council of Biology Editors) Style Manual
